Learning Environments

We are passionate about the learning that takes place within our wardliarna (classrooms), but also highly value learning that extends beyond these spaces and into the environments and natural world that surrounds us. Our approach to education is centered on creating indoor and outdoor environments that inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning. By designing flexible and adaptable learning spaces that cater to individual needs, we empower our students to collaborate and develop their personal and social capabilities.

Environments

Ngutu College takes a holistic approach to education by extending learning beyond the classroom walls and into the environments surrounding the College. Our philosophy is the environments are effective, powerful educators and we are dedicated to creating indoor and outdoor spaces that promote curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.

At Ngutu College, learning spaces are designed to be welcoming and homely, encouraging children and young people to feel comfortable and familiar in their environment. The spaces are flexible and adaptable to support various learning opportunities, catering to individual needs. Learners are empowered to make decisions about where and with whom they work meaning the learning process is highly collaborative, and supportive of personal and social capabilities.

The College has transformed its outdoor spaces from a blank canvas to include dynamic and engaging areas that encourage exploration, playfulness, reflection and relaxation, high energy and connection with the natural world. We believe that these environments are essential for providing learners with experiences that inspire their natural sense of wonder and inquiry. We encourage ideas of custodianship and responsibility for the environment, instilling a deep appreciation for the world we live in.

Connecting with Country

Ngutu College is committed to connecting with Kaurna Country and providing opportunities for children and young people to learn through and about culture throughout this Country. By incorporating these experiences, including many excursions, into our curriculum, we aim to develop a deep appreciation for the cultural and ecological context in which we exist live and learn.

Our approach to education is founded on the belief that the environment is a powerful and holistic educator, shaping the learning experiences of individuals and their communities. We recognise that learning is not limited only to what happens in a classroom, and that the environments in which we learn play a vital role in shaping our experiences and outcomes. We believe that learning is most effective when it is connected to the physical, social, and cultural contexts of the learners, and that education should be designed to support in understanding and engaging with the world around them.
